Drew White of Normal, Illinois, started competing in Special Olympics in 2008. Since, he has participated in basketball, bowling, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. He will represent Special Olympics USA in tennis. Through Special Olympics, Drew has gained friends who have become like his family. He has become more confident and has learned how to be self-reliant. In 2013, he was recognized at the State Farm Student-Athlete Recognition Banquet as Special Olympics Male Athlete of the Year. In 2014, he was recognized for his accomplishments at the Illinois Wesleyan University Minority Academic Achievement Recognition Ceremony.
When he is not competing or training, Drew volunteers with Special Olympics and performs with a local theatre group. In attending the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023, he is looking forward to meeting people with special abilities from other countries and playing alongside world-class athletes.
