James Thigpen of Macon, Georgia, has been active in Special Olympics for more than 20 years. In those years, he has made many friends and has enjoyed learning how to sail. Through Special Olympics, James has also competed in bocce, bowling, floor hockey and softball. He will represent Special Olympics USA in sailing.
Outside of Special Olympics, James participates in activities provided through his group home and church, where he leads men’s Bible study classes. His life has been impacted by his Uncle Terry, who passed away in 2017. With his uncle, James looked forward to attending NASCAR races. In preparation for the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023, James is exercising regularly and training with his Unified partner, Phil Martin.
