Philip Blount of Charlotte, North Carolina, has been actively involved with Special Olympics for 15 years, training and competing in athletics, basketball and Unified flag football. Philip will represent Special Olympics USA in athletics. Special Olympics has encouraged Philip to improve his communication skills, sportsmanship and healthy living habits.
In 2005, Philip’s parents became founding members of Philips Academy, a nonprofit school for students with complex language, learning and/or cognitive disabilities. After graduating from high school at Philips Academy, he attended Central Piedmont Community College.
Philip is employed by Charlotte Christian School and works five days a week, prepping and serving food to students in the cafeteria. He is a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and enjoys making pottery, traveling, learning about history and spending time with his cat, Cowbell. He also has earned his second-degree black belt in Taekwondo.
