Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 will be Richard Schreiner's second Special Olympics World Games appearance. In 2015, Richard was the Sports Commissioner for soccer at the World Games in Los Angeles. His Special Olympics journey was inspired by his sister who is a long time Special Olympics Indiana athlete. One of Richard’s favorite Special Olympics memories is from the 2015 World Games triathlon competitions which, for Rich “completely shattered any stereotypes I had about what people with disabilities can accomplish.” Richard is looking forward to the World Games in Abu Dhabi as an opportunity to grow, and expand his understanding of the Special Olympics community so that he can better serve the Seattle community when he returns. When he’s not coaching Special Olympics soccer, Richard is in his 11th season as the Associate Head Coach for the Seattle University women's soccer team.
