Karen Carter has been working with people with disabilities most of her life. She began while working at a summer camp, then earning her Masters of Education and working in special education for 14 years. As much as she enjoyed working in the classroom, she always wanted to be a doctor. In 1996, she graduated from the Medical College of Georgia. She went on to become a Developmental Pediatrician. She has been an active supporter of Special Olympics Georgia and has offered free Special Olympics physicals since becoming a doctor. In addition, she is member of the management team for both Area 9 and the Augusta Stars. She was a Unified bocce partner for the Augusta Stars at the 2003 World Summer Games in Ireland. She has been a part of the Special Olympics Georgia medical team serving at all the state games for over 10 years. Karen lives in Augusta, Georgia with her husband, Kevin, and their son, Judson, who is an Augusta Stars athlete. Karen and Kevin are dedicated to enriching the lives of people with disabilities and helping them reach their potential.
