Alexandra McMillin serves as the Director of Communications and Media Relations for Special Olympics Illinois. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 2010 with her B.A. in Marketing with a focus in writing. There she volunteered at the radio station, KRUI, interned and pursued her passion for non-profit through the university’s million-dollar fundraiser, Dance Marathon. Upon graduating, she began work in marketing and development for a non-profit performing arts center, where she fell in love with public relations and advocacy. After several years of advertising the talents of national acts as well as home-grown theatre projects, she had the opportunity to help spread the word about the Special Olympics movement. She traveled to the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria where had the privilege of being the Assistant Director of Communications for Special Olympics USA, and recently supported her home program in Seattle during the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games. Alexandra is a die-hard Hawkeye fan with a love of all things football, music and adventuring in new places. She cannot wait to tell the stories of the delegation as the team prepares for Abu Dhabi!
