Landa Gann has been a Special Olympics Louisiana coach for 14 years. Gann was awarded the 2015 Volunteer of the Year for Special Olympics Louisiana. Gann has attended the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games, 2014 Special Olympics USA Games, and 2010 Special Olympics USA Games and the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games. The highlight of Gann’s time with Special Olympics was when she coached an athlete that traveled from home for the first time during State Summer Games. “I knew the experience would be one she would love. I was second guessing myself after the crying started. She cried on and off the first day. Her first event was softball throw. She won gold! She was on the podium, received her medal, and started crying again. I was ready for her to tell me she was ready to go home. Instead, she ran to me crying and said ‘This is my Special Olympics dream come true!’ This in turn got me to start crying with her. Those moments keep me coming back for more.
