Jan Moser is the epitome of what Special Olympics stands for. When visiting with coaches about Jan, there are a number of terms that were consistently repeated. They said that she always has a smile, is polite, has great manners, is kind and thoughtful with other Special Olympics athletes, demonstrates great leadership qualities, and goes the extra mile to greet everyone she knows to make sure that they feel important at every practice. She has a gift to see the positive in everything and everyone, making her peers feel better about their abilities and performance at each practice or competition. Jan began participating in Special Olympics North Dakota in 2003, after moving to Mandan from Pollock, South Dakota. Since then, she has been a multi-sport athlete, participating in athletics, bocce, bowling, volleyball, soccer, snow shoe racing, and cross country skiing. Jan was a member of Team North Dakota, participating in volleyball at the 2006 and 2010 Special Olympics USA Games earning a gold medal in 2006 and bronze medal in 2010. Jan also attended the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games in New Jersey, competing in bowling. She earned a silver medal in singles competition at the event. Jan has been employed on a cleaning crew with Pride, Inc. for more than 15 years. She has also been a groomer at the Pet Place for a year.
