Sherrie Izban has been involved in Special Olympics for almost 20 years. In 2017, she was named Coach of the Year for Special Olympics Illinois Area 7. Sherrie has attended the Special Olympics World Games as an athletics coach in 2011 and, 2007 and as family support in 2009. She also attended the USA Games in 2006, 2010 and 2014, as an athletics coach for Team Illinois. One of her favorite Special Olympics moments was watching the 4x100 meter women’s relay team she coached for the 2007 World Summer Games run their race, finish first and win gold for USA. It literally brought tears to her eyes. Watching them hug each other on the podium while displaying smiles of unbridled happiness is something she will never forget. Sherrie is very excited to have the honor of being a part of Special Olympics USA as an Athletics coach once again for the 2019 World Games in Abu Dhabi.
