Jerry Bridges first became involved in Special Olympics when he was an Elementary Physical Education Instructor. Special Olympics has changed his life and has made him appreciate all the little things in life that most take for granted. He loves being able to work with and socialize with all the amazing athletes. One of his favorite Special Olympics moments was at the Special Olympics World Games in 1987 held at Notre Dame. He remembers a track athlete collapsing close to the finish line. Eunice Kennedy Shriver came onto the track and helped the athlete, and the athlete was able to recover and finish the race. Jerry has been a part of every World and USA Games ever since! Every competition is exciting to Jerry and he is just as honored and excited to be a part of it as he was during his first go around.
