Mike Bub of Shrub Oak, New York, has spent 15 years training in bowling, floorball, floor hockey and swimming with Special Olympics. In 2022, he competed in the Special Olympics USA Games, where he helped lead his swimming relay team to a gold medal. Selected to compete in the Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025, he will represent Special Olympics USA in floorball.
Within Special Olympics New York, he is a member of the Regional Athlete Leadership Council. As a leader and an athlete, he has made friends and learned the value of acceptance. He is inspired by Michael Phelps, who motivates Mike to never give up. His weekly routine includes training with his team and playing bass guitar in a rock band. Competing in the Special Olympics World Games is Mike’s way of showing the world what people with intellectual disabilities can do.
