Megan Gorski of Endicott, New York, started coaching Special Olympics more than 20 years ago. She was introduced to coaching through her husband, who was already a coach when they first met. After his passing nearly two years ago, Megan continues to coach Special Olympics athletes and parent her sons in his memory. Through Special Olympics, she has gained an additional family of coaches and athletes. In the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games, she served as a tennis coach for the Special Olympics New York delegation. In 2025, she will represent Special Olympics USA as a coach in cross country skiing.
The person she is inspired by most is her niece, Brianna, who has spent the past 13 years caring for her own grandparents and her sister with disabilities. Brianna’s story reminds Megan of the transformative power of determination, compassion and inner strength, traits she also sees in Special Olympics athletes.
