Jack Zalta

Unified Partner • Harrison, NY • Floor Hockey

Jack Zalta, 16, is a Special Olympics New York Unified Partner who is competing at the 2017 World Winter Games in floor hockey. With this being Zalta’s first World Games experience, he said “it means being a part of something that is much bigger than just me.” “We are competing against teams from all over the world and that is very exciting,” Zalta said. “The World Games is a chance to bring home a medal for our country. We have really bonded as a team and it will be challenging to win games and make our families proud.” Zalta said he’s most looking forward to the Opening Ceremony and meeting athletes from around the world. In his free time, Zalta plays for his varsity ice hockey and golf teams, while volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and DJing. “(Being a Unified Partner) has taught me to make new friends and learn to look beyond any disability to discover a person,” he said. Zalta’s parents have seen the importance Special Olympics has played in Jack’s life so far. “Special Olympics is important because it allows children with different abilities to compete at a national and world level bringing them great pride and a sense of achievement,” Zalta’s parents said. “It is a wonderfully supportive organization that not only serves children with special needs, but helps to bridge the greater community together to foster new friendships.”
